Whole Foods takeover of Wild Oats... :(

Sun Feb 17, 2008 at 06:33:46 AM PDT

As a break from Election 2008, I'll tell you about another issue that has been bothering me. The Wild Oats store near my house has slowly been converting into a Whole Foods market.  When I first heard about the takeover between the two companies, I was optimistic that the store would be improving and that the store was going to offer more selection.  However, I've found quite the opposite to be true, with higher prices for no additional services, and now I'm starting to miss the old store.  Follow me to hear more...

Obama is the great uniter

Fri Feb 15, 2008 at 08:14:05 PM PDT

I'm originally from a rather Republican-friendly area of the country: rural Louisiana.  I have been shocked by how many people that I know that still live in the area that would consider or are planning on voting for Obama this year.  I'll detail a story or two below the fold...

Predictions for the Potomac Primary

Mon Feb 11, 2008 at 01:37:54 PM PDT

According to the "leaked" spreadsheet from the Obama campaign, they expected to win every state in the Potomac Primary, although not very handily.  Using their delegate estimator, they expected to win about 10 more delegates than Clinton.  Below the fold I'll show you why their estimate is way too low.

The Rhetoric of Sirius Satellite Radio favors the GOP

Fri Oct 27, 2006 at 02:57:41 PM PDT

A friend of mine just got Sirius radio a few days ago.  I was pretty excited as I had heard that it was really great and had a lot of options.  However one of these options threw me for a loop and I was wondering if other people had a take on this.  In essence, I will discuss below why Sirius considers the right to be "Patriots" while the left is just outspoken and entertaining.

Cheney remains out of touch with reality

Tue Oct 17, 2006 at 05:08:50 PM PDT

I still can't believe the lies that come out of Dick Cheney's mouth.  He will spin and say anything in an effort to cover up the truth.  He went on Rush Limbaugh's radio show earlier today and thinks that the Iraq situation is going "remarkably well".  In my opinion this should be a headline over any major news organization.  More below...

Hurricane Expose' in the Miami Herald

Sun Oct 09, 2005 at 08:07:37 AM PDT

This morning the Miami Herald ran a story talking about all sorts of hurricane-related issues... from lack of funding to inept management.  It talks about how NOAA diverts funding from crucial areas and how hurricane research funding has been cutoff... leaving the nation more exposed to these disasters.

Fri Oct 08, 2004 at 01:45:59 PM PDT

Greetings...

So I hanging out at my parent's house today in Louisiana.. enjoying a day off work and pumped up for the presidential debate tonight.. especially given the good week that the Democrats have had.  By the way I have seen no less than 20 GOP ads but very few DNC ads...Then I get a call from the Bush/Cheney campaign.... and a little fun begins.

Is tonight's debate finally when Kerry opens up a crisp lead over the margin of error in a consensus of national polls?

I can't bear it... I must do something + *poll*

Sun Jul 18, 2004 at 08:59:52 AM PDT

Good morning...

Last night I saw Fahrenheit 9/11 for the second time.  Still very gripping.  Anyway... after giving as much money as I can afford to the various campaigns... I have decided to do even more.  My job takes up a lot of time but I've decided it is critically important for me to go encourage new people to vote in the upcoming election plus help the get out the vote effort on election day.  There is so much at stake that it would be difficult to deal with the crooked, lying faction in the White House for 4 more years.  I shudder to even think about it.. the good ole boys club must go.  It doesn't hurt that I live in Florida... where every vote allegedly counts :)

I was reading more stories about athens blackouts when i realized the olympics are fast approaching.  it is common knowledge that the usa is not exactly the most favorite country on the block at this time.. and with the addition of the Bush twins as envoys, i can't image that will improve anything.  will there be a chorus of boos from the stands?  take the poll:

political and other thoughts from a trip to puerto rico

Tue Jul 13, 2004 at 09:02:50 PM PDT

Hi all--

Spent a lovely week around Puerto Rico.  Very nice--- the weather was surprisingly hazy and not really as warm as S Florida.  In any event... I didn't see a single positive article about W down there (in the English newspapers at least).  Gotta love that!  Secondly, I was amazed by the political limbo that they are in... commonwealth status... not free but sort of loosely connected.  I remember a diary a long time ago about the political status of the country and am still confused.

CNN report on Bush "high flexibility" ie flip-flopping

Mon Jun 28, 2004 at 03:39:40 PM PDT

Hi all,

I was amazed to see a report on Lou Dobbs tonight about Bush changing positions on a variety of issues... even using the term flip-flopping which Kerry has become aligned with in the media.  Did anyone else see it?  Lisa Sylvester was the reporter... good report.  It is nothing new to the Kossacks.. see this diary:

Fahrenheit 9/11 still rules the Box Office! 21.8 million!

Sun Jun 27, 2004 at 07:55:36 AM PDT

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2004-06-26&p=.htm

Another day, another 8 million or so at the box office for f 9/11.  I think it will keep the movie in the news cycle for at least the next few days if it is the #1 movie in America.. at least it will likely be for the weekend.  Now... do they report just the weekend or the Wed-Sun period.. cuz then White Chicks might have more money???

I may be optimistic here.. but from a few friends' reaction.. this could swing a lot of voters at least from red to purple.  Assume that a movie ticket is about 7 bucks... and that f 9/11 will make 50 million or so... that is 7 million plus people!  And they won't be voting for Bush... at least won't be more likely too!

I am feeling good that the GOP is on the ropes.
Eric -- updated for the final weekend estimate of 21.8 million.. making it the top movie of the weekend! -- yeah!

F 9/11 F-ing ruled

Fri Jun 25, 2004 at 07:59:33 PM PDT

Ok, I'm going to bend the no repetitive diaries rules just a bit and discuss Fahrenheit 9/11 (shocker)... with a twist in the review (maybe a bit gushing Harry Knowles-ish).  First of all, I saw it at Regal South Beach 18 this afternoon and it was great (projector problems notwithstanding).  I was anticipating this movie so much... it really only rivaled Star Wars Ep I...The Return of the King... or perhaps the 2nd Matrix in terms of high anticipation.  This movie rocked even my expectations.   That is exceptionally difficult to do for me.. nothing can ruin a movie like high expectations. I am going to take anyone I know that is even partially undecided to it.

(minor spoilers in this paragraph) Moore wasn't in the movie as much as his previous works.  This is very effective to let the movie do the talking.  Also he shed a lot of light on what happened in the Senate with all the African-Americans in the House protesting.  I never heard about that in the mainstream news (gee that figures).  The man is practically a genius in the way he combines images and facts.  Fine he may make some inferences but most of the time it is pretty clear when he is taking some liberties.  I experienced many many emotions in that movie from utter sadness to elation.  A great film!

I will probably see it again next week...  now that I have seen it, I would have driven a couple of hours to have seen it... so all those that aren't close... it is worth your while.  It sure will increase those Kerry contributions as well!

Eric updated the title to reflect on Moore's movie, not the actual 9/11 (didn't even think of that yipes)

good news all around...*Plus poll*

Thu Jun 24, 2004 at 08:33:02 AM PDT

The quick summary of today is that Kerry is leading in Pennsylvania and Ohio according to two recent polls (Nader excluded... I really don't think he will be a factor this year).  A new CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll is due to be released this afternoon according to ABC's The Note.  Will the good news continue?  Best of all I am going to Fahrenheit 9/11 tomorrow afternoon.  Could be a really good start to the weekend.   Will there be a "Reagan bounce" as some pundits have surmised or Bush going to keep falling in approval?  Take the poll...

F 9/11-- truth or fiction Moore quotes?

Tue Jun 15, 2004 at 05:02:23 PM PDT

On the Move America Forward Website:
http://www.moveamericaforward.com/NewsMax/

There are a host of quotes that are attributed to Michael Moore... some of which sound manufactured and/or taken out of context.  Does anyone have the truth when it comes to quotes mentioned below?  I sincerely doubt Moore said all of these things.. and if he did, there were some pretty heavy qualifiers attached that were conveniently forgotten.

Bandar on MTP

Sun Apr 25, 2004 at 07:56:08 AM PDT

What an incredible roasting Prince Bandar, the Saudi ambassador to the US, took on Meet the Press this morning.  There were many damning statements, including "hate" language toward Christians and Jews in state-sponsored textbooks and a continued dragging of the feet on terror-fighting project.  Bandar had no good answers for the charges brought up by Newsweek a couple of weeks ago about Saudi money funding terrorists.  The worst moment was at the end when Russert asked Bandar who is more popular in the country, Osama bin Laden or George Bush... no answer was given, a lot of hemming & hawing but it was obvious what the answer truly was...

Anyone else see this?

Eric

9/11 timeline damns bush

Thu Mar 25, 2004 at 02:28:38 PM PDT

http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timeline/main/essayaninterestingday.html

This is an exceptional account of Bush's actions on 9/11... with all sorts of documentation and sources.  It is a phenomenal read... it really does beg the question of what in the world was he doing on that day?  There are no actions detailed here of a brave leader at all, like the press wants to make up.

This link has probably been mentioned before but I thought with the 9/11 stuff in the news some of us could use a refresher.
