Wherein we see the Problem of Competing "Wars o(n)(f) Terror"
Mon Mar 03, 2008 at 08:08:14 AM PDT
A recent military strike in Ecuador clearly shows the problems that are continuing to develop in the way nations conduct their own personal wars on terror.
Kossacks Under Thirty-Five: I have in My Hand a List-----of Dating Dealbreakers!
Thu Feb 07, 2008 at 05:55:56 PM PDT
So, are we all Primaried out? I sure am!
Kossacks Under 35 is a weekly diary series designed to create a
community within DailyKos that focuses on young people. Our overall goals
are to work on increasing young voters' Democratic majority, and to raise
awareness about issues that particularly affect young people, with a
potential eye to policy solutions. Kossacks of all ages are welcome to
participate (and do!), but the overall framework of each diary will likely
be on or from a younger person's perspective. If you would like more
information or want to contribute a diary, please email

Ok, I'm sorry. I picked a goofy headline to get eyes on the diary. I'm shameless. But with candidate season in force, I have to do drastic things to get people to read my stuff.
What's Up In Pennsylvania?
Thu Jan 31, 2008 at 11:33:25 AM PDT
As promised, here's the first installment of "What's Up In [State]", a collaborative series I hope gets going here at Daily Kos. I'm going to tackle Pennsylvania, the state I've lived in since birth.
An Idea I just thought up: "What's the Matter with [State]?"
Tue Jan 29, 2008 at 02:27:24 PM PDT
Ever wonder what the issues are in another state, maybe one you don't hear about often?
I came up with an idea: "What's the Matter with [State]?" However, "What's Up In [State]?" is probably a better title for the series.
Say what you will about the stimulus, but this is pure selfishness

First, a disclosure, I've never been a fan of AmericaBlog. There is something about the propriator's manner that grates me wrong, like sandpaper. If you need to call me on it--well, get it out of the way in the tip jar.

Yeah, this homo supports Obama

The support never really wavered from Donnie McClurikin (loser extraordinarie, yeah, we all know that). And I swore to the God-That-Likely-Doesn't-Exist that I'd never write a Candidate Diary, as I thought all you Candidate Partisans were several levels of nuts-in-need-of-pot-or-Paxil-Or-Lexapro.....
How to write a proper Scold Diary
Tue Dec 04, 2007 at 10:49:29 AM PDT
Yeah it's people are in need of Lexapro Primary Season. Which also means, it's also the season of the Scold. The Common Concern Troll can also fall under this category, but not always. Although the Scold never really leaves us, it's still a unique type of diary.
Except, when people don't write them right with the proper words and template, thus negating any entertainment I could have derived from said scold diary. This irks me. So here's a template and guide. This guide can be used for any and all subjects, from candidate diaries to global warming catastrophe porn diaries, to "America is Fascist" diaries. Try it out.
oh, if you're humor impaired, you may want to hit your funny bone on something, or find something for Very Serious People to read.
Is It Real? Pennsylvania Bigfoot
Sun Dec 02, 2007 at 03:39:37 PM PDT
I've spent this icy Sunday watching the History Channel's skeptical series on monsters. I like it, which is surprising considering it's the History Channel (better known as the UFOs, Conspiracies, Ira(n)(q) is Evil, Catastrophe Porn Channel) which doesn't always have the best in intelligent programming.
It sparked something that was on the front page of the Harrisburg Patriot News four Saturdays ago. Does Bigfoot exist in Pennsylvania?

Magnitude 7.4 Earthquake in Caribbean; Felt over Wide Region
Thu Nov 29, 2007 at 11:48:02 AM PDT
This just happened within an hour of the posting of this diary (2pm Eastern, 3pm Atlantic) meaning no news has been posted just yet.
Hat Tip to Mem in Somerville, who actually did the real breaking of this story (well, mother Earth did that), in the Open Thread.
A strong earthquake has occurred, but a tsunami IS NOT expected along the coasts of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, U.S. Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico states, and Eastern Canadian provinces. NO tsunami warning or watch is in effect for these areas.
Based on the depth of the earthquake within the earth, a widespread damaging tsunami IS NOT expected along the Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, U.S. Atlantic, Eastern Canadian and Gulf of Mexico coasts. At coastal locations which have experienced strong ground shaking, local tsunamis are possible due to underwater landslides.
At 3:00 PM Atlantic Standard Time on November 29, an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 7.3 occurred near the Windward Islands, Caribbean Sea. (Refer to the United States Geological Survey for official earthquake parameters.)

Perhaps this isn't important, and perhaps it is. It's not a political announcement. It's not helping us with our own world's problems which may or may not end life on this planet. But it's still a neat little announcement. Another world has been discovered, orbiting a sun-like star, in its habitable zone. And I thought I'd just write about it a little bit.
Comin' to Boston and New England and Need Sightseeing Ideas
Sat Oct 06, 2007 at 01:32:02 PM PDT
Yeah, I'm coming up there to make a ruckus from October 18th through October 24th and beyond the New England Aquarium and several Boston and Portland ME area Kossacks who are at the top of the list, I'd like ideas on what to see and who what to do.

Short Notice, but Come On Out!
Sat Sep 08, 2007 at 08:45:41 AM PDT
Yeah, I know, this should be an open thread comment. The Central PA Kossacks are having our picnic today, at noon/1pm, at Longs Parkin Lancaster, PA. It should last a few hours.
From Harrisburg and west...
Travel south on Route 283 and follow Route 30 west. Then take the Harrisburg Pike exit.
From the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Philadelphia and east...
Travel south on Route 222 to Route 30 west. Follow Route 30 west to the Harrisburg Pike exit.
From York and south...
Travel east on Route 30 to the Harrisburg Pike exit.
Apologies for the short notice. It has been a very, very busy week for a lot of us, especially with the holiday last weekend.
There'll be other events with more notice. At any rate hit up the link to the group and join in! and if you can make it to Longs Park early this afternoon, great!
Sigh. Congestion Solutions seem Dead in the Midstate.
