Dear Media: New Narrative. Obama '08 is like Tiger '97 Masters

DemFromCT's Abbreviated Pundit Roundup got me thinking.  Specifically, this one:

The Swamp: Gallup says most voters think Obama will win, giving network execs (who love tied races) heartburn

Of course, the media thinks America loves a horserace.  But they also love a good old-fashioned ass-whooping.  Especially a history-making one, like Tiger Woods' crushing 12-stroke victory at Augusta in April, 1997.

Washington Post Headline, April 14, 1997:

Tiger Woods Masters The Course of History; Augusta's Champion Is Youngest at 21, and First of Color

From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

When Tiger Woods made the outcome of The Masters a foregone conclusion Saturday, CBS vice president of programming Mike Aresco wondered aloud if the rout of the field would cause viewers to lose interest.

"But if I had to pick one player to be running away with it," Aresco said, "Tiger would be that player because you have the feeling you're watching something special."

Note that despite running away with his victory, Woods still brought record viewers.  Yes, dear Media -- you can make money without helping McCain turn this into a contest.

So, here you go, Mainstream Media.  Take it from me -- screw the horse-race, here's your new narrative:  Barack Obama dominates wire to wire in race to make history.

Frankly, I think Americans are tired of photo-finishes and quagmires.  We want a blowout.
